June 19, 2006 Chicago Force Dismantle Storm CHICAGO, IL. With playoff implications looming, the Chicago Force dismantled the Kansas City Storm 42-0 last Saturday at Peve Stadium in Blue Springs Missouri. From the time Chicago (5-2) stepped off the airplane, to running out onto the field, the players were all business - understanding a loss would end their chances for a postseason birth. The “lady monsters of the midway” took advantage of superior size and speed, and on the opening drive marched 72 yards on nine plays capped off by a strong 27 yard touchdown run by FB Jessica McPeake. McPeake, a Missouri native, had her own cheering section. An enthusiastic group wore red t-shirts each with a letter spelling out her last name. “It was exciting to get back to my roots playing fullback”, explained McPeake. “To score my first touchdown of the year in front of my family and friends is very special.” Head coach Jim Stahl spread the wealth for his offense with timely play calling. Rookie QB Angie Bandstra continues to get better and had a strong game completing 10 of 17 for 184 yards and two touchdowns, including a keeper from five yards out. Tashaunda Shumpert gave Chicago good field position with returns of 16 and 22 yards that led to touchdowns. Other offensive stars that scored were WR Linda Bache, RB Tamera Hunter, and WR Tricia Charbonneau. “Charbie” continues to show that she is the most versatile player on the Force. Running for a touchdown, and catching a 15 yard TD pass. On two occasions she kicked off and laid a big hit on the returner. The offensive line methodically plowed through the Storm defenders making things easy all day. Leading the charge were Stacey Baker, in at center due to a season ending injury to co-captain Michele Maeder. Other standouts include Cynde Hafer, Jessica Andrasko, Faith Theodoropoulos, and Trish Nelson. The defense tallied a shutout for the second time in only 7 games. Every time there was a pileup LB’s Pam Schaffrath, Becky Thuestad, Kim Duffey and DL Keesha Brooks were in on the tackle. Duffey and DL Amanda Malsch both came up with key fumble recoveries. Rheda King, Maggie Murphy, Tamika Perry, Jenn Schulz, Tracy Johnson, Michelle Mendiola, Mandy Linkinhoker, Marie Kluss, Debbie Sanchez, Christine Wheeler and Jennifer Dulski also deserves special mention. On back to back Storm offensive series, DB Dulski came away with two interceptions.“Today was our best performance of the season” said defensive coordinator, Antrien Fisher. “We went from football players to football athletes.” The Force finish up the regular season Saturday June 24 when they host Kansas City. Coach Stahl is optimistic about the playoffs. “Our team really came out and executed the way we’re capable of,” said Stahl. “I want to keep up the momentum the rest of the way.” For more information regarding the Chicago Force visit www.chicagoforcefootball.com or contact Linda Bache, General Manager, (630) 675-1339 |
