The Detroit Demolition came to town on Saturday May 13, at Lane Stadium to take on the defending Midwest Division Champion Chicago Force. Both teams lived up to their 2-0 early season records with most of the game being contested in the trenches at midfield. Yet the Demolition made the most of their opportunities handing the Force their first loss 19-0. The Demolition ran their unbeaten streak to 45 games including 42 straight victories. Four NWFA (National Woman’s Football Association) titles, prior to joining the IWFL for the 2006 campaign. Demolition starting RB Aisha Brown was knocked out of the game on the Detroit first offensive series. Backup RB Kiana Dennis led the charge rushing a personal best 32 times for 151 yards and the only touchdown Detroit needed all day. "Kiana has been a starter for us in the past. I felt we wouldn’t have that much of a drop off" said Detroit head coach Tony Blankenship. "She did a good job." The Force who had averaged more than 300 yards of total offense in their first two games, had Detroit backed up deep inside their 12 yard line at the start of the second quarter. They saw their only scoring chance, a blocked punt by DB Jennifer Dulski, picked up and ran in for a touchdown by DB Mandy Linkinhoker negated on an illegal block penalty. With few chances to move the ball, Chicago chose to put the ball in the air in the second half. Offensive MVP of the game WR/DB Linda Bache (3 rec. 50 yards) made two impressive catches in a row, in the fourth quarter, to move the ball inside Detroit territory. Defensive MVP OLB Pam Schaffrath was flying all over the field, recording five solo and ten assisted tackles to keep Chicago in the contest all day. Although Force head coach, Jim Stahl, wasn't pleased with the outcome, he didn’t see any quit in his team. "You can’t teach heart, you have to just have it, and we do. Detroit knows that they had a battle on their hands today," Stahl said. The Force travel to Iowa to take on the Crush, Saturday May 20. Game time 7 pm.
