Chicago Force beats the Iowa Crush, 26-8.

CHICAGO, IL. Despite a steady rain fall all afternoon, the Chicago Force, in front of 350 enthusiastic water logged fans, won the 2006 season opener 26-8 over the Iowa Crush last Saturday April 29th at Lane Tech stadium.

2005 team MVP Linda Bache took the opening Crush kickoff 29 yards that set up the first score two plays later by FB, Sally Beaumout. Beaumont finished the day in impressive fashion, carrying 15 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns. She was joined offensively by game MVP Melissa Smith. Smith, 5’6 195 pounds, a big strong RB, had her way with the Crush defense all day long, rushing 22 times for 148 yards, a touchdown, and two pat’s.

Rookie QB, Angie Bandstra showed the poise of a seasoned veteran completing 11 of 22 passes for 150 yards, including a perfectly thrown 27 yard touchdown strike to WR Abby Riewe to put the Force ahead for good at 20-8 just before the end of the first half.

Defensively, the Force held the Crush to under 200 total yards led by game MVP Jennifer Dulski. First year player Dulski contributed three tackles, two interceptions, including one for a 30 yard return. Bache added two interceptions to go along with five tackles.

"Despite the tough weather conditions the ladies did a good job today" stated head coach Jim Stahl and added, "We have to keep working hard. I want to establish a rhythm and momentum with the first unit. As the weeks go on we will get there."

The Force will travel to Detroit to take on The Predators Saturday, May 6 under the lights at 7pm at Franklin H.S. Stadium, 31000 Joy Rd., Livonia Mich.
