Force Impressive in Home Opener Win 68-0Photo Credit: Jeff White CHICAGO IL: The Force offense and defense were both operating at a high level despite nasty weather throughout their home opener against the Columbus Comets. Chicago’s offense only attempted two passes in the swirling downpour and instead focused on their run game, amassing 521 yards of rushing offense. QB Rasan Gore led the offense with 155 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and was named the Offensive Game Day MVP. First year running backs Emma Vanderheyden (98 yards and 2 TDs) and Tamika Robinson (98 yards and 1 TD) had consistent success against the over-matched Comet defense. And in her first action of the season Zoe Barnett impressed with 105 yards and a touchdown in 13 carries. The Chicago offensive line showed signs of becoming a dominant force as they consistently created ample running lanes for the ball carriers. Wide receiver Jamie Fornal played quarterback on the final two possessions and carried 4 times for 65 yards and 2 TD’s to round out the scoring. The Force were 7 of 9 on two point attempts. The defense secured another shut-out while limiting Columbus to just 44 yards of total offense. Angel Smith was named the Defensive Game Day MVP for her 8 tackles, 4 for a loss, a sack and a fumble recovery. Linebacker Mary Choules also had a big game leading the defense with 10 tackles. Head Coach John Konecki was in great spirits after the game. “This was our best effort of the season. In weather like this it’s critical to minimize mistakes and capitalize on opportunities. We were able to do both, despite the playing conditions. We’re trending upward which is what you want when your next game is against the defending champion.” This is the mid-point of the regular season and Chicago (4-0) will face the defending National Champion DC Divas next Saturday May 7 th at Lane Tech Stadium, kickoff is at 5pm. The Divas knocked Chicago out of the playoffs last year in the conference championship. This don’t-miss game promises to be a physical battle between the top two teams in the National conference.
